Following complaints from people facing difficulties with the National Insurance System (NIS) in relation to reimbursement of payments for dialysis treatment, Dr Ashni Singh, senior minister for finance at the Office of the President, said Thursday that the National Insurance I met with the management of the scheme. The $600,000 annual subsidy provided by the government and announced in the 2022 Budget is additional support for dialysis patients, with clear instructions given to financial institutions that it should never be used as a basis for dialysis patients. Ministry of Health Insurance Scheme (NIS). Refused legitimate interest from the institution.
“One of the several measures we announced in the 2022 Budget was the introduction of a $600,000 grant for people on dialysis. It is in response to the government’s recognition of the serious challenges facing and the enormous costs associated with not only dialysis treatment, but also associated medications and other costs associated with accessing that treatment. Mr. Singh recalled after a meeting with NIS.
The minister then expressed disappointment that dialysis patients were experiencing such difficulties when they shouldn’t be.
“Many patients need dialysis treatment twice a week, sometimes three times a week, etc. So, in recognition of this, we are offering a $600,000 subsidy to anyone who regularly receives dialysis. We have introduced this Dialysis Assistance Program to receive: Recently we have noticed that many people in particular are having some kind of problem with the interaction with the National Insurance System, especially related to dialysis treatment, with the introduction of this measure in the 2022 budget. I noticed that some people can no longer get dialysis reimbursement from NIS since the government introduced a $600,000 subsidy for dialysis patients,” the senior finance minister explained.
He further explained that during a meeting with NIS management on the issue, NIS had given clear instructions to stop this immediately.
The finance minister explained that the situation was perverse as he said it was not the government’s intention.
“The government’s $600,000 subsidy for dialysis patients is intended to provide additional support to dialysis patients and has clarified that patients are not meant to be denied the benefits of NIS. Apparently, What’s happening is that some patients are told their dialysis benefits won’t be reimbursed until they’ve used up $600,000. (this subsidy) and then remove it through another agency in the country, so I think the $600,000 subsidy that the government provides for We have made it clear to NIS senior management that this is in addition to what was enjoyed by those who pay NIS and are entitled to some NIS assistance,” Dr Singh said. .
He added that those who have contributed to NIS over the years should not be punished.
“I have made it very clear that the receipt of a $600,000 grant from the government by a dialysis patient will not be used as a basis for denying a person who is duly entitled to assistance from NIS for dialysis purposes. I made it very clear to them,” concluded Minister Singh.
Over the past few weeks, a number of people have written to the Minister complaining of problems communicating with NIS regarding reimbursement for dialysis treatment. The minister urged anyone who may still be facing such issues to contact the Ministry of Finance, which has staff to deal with the matter.
The government continues to actively work to improve the quality of services provided by state agencies such as the National Insurance Scheme.
