My wife and I are in our late twenties and have plenty of emergency funds saved up. Our only debt is our home. We talked about having a child within the next year, but I’m out of her 3 weeks a month for work. I don’t want to be away too much once I have kids, so I’m thinking of opening my own business so that I can get rid of business trips and control my time better. Any thoughts on this situation?
A. An entrepreneur is someone I know who can go from sheer dread to sheer exhilaration and back every few hours. It takes a strong mind and a strong heart to succeed. Plus, if you don’t like what you’re doing, your ideas are likely not going to last. Remember, you’re basically a direct commission as an entrepreneur, and there probably won’t be any regular paychecks you can expect for a while.
OK, that was a quick dose of reality. So, if time and money weren’t a consideration, would you rather stay in your current job or run your own business?
My advice to anyone, entrepreneur or not, is to make sure your work matches your innate passions, skills, and talents. You don’t have to work in construction if you don’t like . If you don’t like talking on the phone or being trapped, just like you don’t want to be stuck in a call center. all day.
Everyone wants to be successful in their job, enjoy their job and earn a lot of money. But personal happiness is just as important. If you wake up excited about what you face each day, you are likely to be successful and happy. There is no mistake.
There is much more to be done. There is no change in my desire to change jobs or start a business. Being able to spend more time with family is also noble and valuable. But I haven’t heard a lot of direction on what you’re saying right now. It would be nice to work with a career coach and spend some time brainstorming ideas with my wife. . I know you both want great things for your kids, but without more planning and thoughtful discussion, you can’t make the best decisions for yourself and your family.
