KPMG US announced the hiring of six partners, principals and managing directors across its tax function.

Britt Huxton (Chief, International Tax, Washington, DC) brings over 12 years of experience to KPMG. Previously, she worked for the global law firm McDermott Will & Emery for over ten years, after which she served as a partner in her DC office at the firm. She also previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the US Attorney’s Office in the South Dakota District for almost two years.

Mr. Haxton holds a LL.B. from Georgetown University and a BA in Accounting from Creighton University.

Joe Backaro (Partner, Business Tax Services, New York) supports KPMG’s clients in their financial services banking and insurance tax practices. He has over 20 years of experience in tax law. He joined KPMG from MetLife, where he spent over 12 years as Senior Vice President and Global Tax Director. Prior to that, he worked for AIG for nine years, where he was a senior tax accountant. He started his career at PwC US.

Mr. Vaccaro holds a LL.M. in Tax Law and Taxation from New York University, a LL.B. from St. John’s College, and a BA in Economics and Accounting from Holy Cross College.

KPMG adds six professionals to its tax practice

Ilya Volkhov (Managing Director, Asset Management Tax, New York) has nearly 20 years of experience. For the last seven years, he worked at Big 4 rival Deloitte Private, where he was a Senior Tax Manager focused on Equities, Hedge Funds, Credit Funds and Fund of Funds clients. Prior to that, he worked at PwC for nearly 10 years, privately as a tax manager for equities and hedge funds. Borukhov started his career as a private his equity accountant at Bisys Fund Services.

He holds a master’s degree in taxation from Baruch College.

nelson valentine (Managing Director, Asset Management Tax, New York) has 18 years of experience. Prior to joining KPMG, he worked at MHR Fund Management for over five years, where he was Head of Taxation. Prior to that, Valentine worked at Deloitte where she worked for over 12 years, later as Senior Manager of International Taxation.

He holds a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Mississippi.

Mike Rylant (Managing Director, State and Local Taxes, Hartford, Connecticut) has over 20 years of experience, spending the last 12 years at tool company Stanley Black & Decker, most recently as Senior Director of State and Local Taxes. Previously he was with EY where he was a tax manager for 8 years.

Rylant holds an LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University, a LL.B. from Suffolk University School of Law, and a BA in Political Science from Providence College.

Susie Fuller (Managing Director, Real Estate and Financial Services Tax, New York) has 17 years of experience. Last year, she served as tax director at her KBP Brands, a restaurant franchise group. Prior to that, she was with KPMG for 10 years where she was Senior Tax Manager. Prior to that, she was a tax accountant at RubinBrown LLP and a senior tax accountant at Williams Keepers.

Fuller holds a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
