Entrepreneur Sandhya Hegde wanted to change his life and digital provided the answer. To support herself after becoming a mother, Hegde started her business online of her children’s products. It wasn’t easy for her to step outside of her comfort zone, but she wanted to prove to herself that Hegde could build something new. Here, Hegde walks us through her journey to using digital tools to overcome her challenges and improve her skills.

She is from a small village in Karnataka. Hegde completed her tertiary education in biotechnology and landed a well-paid job in her IT sector in Bangalore. Like many Indian women, she worked for eight years before becoming her mother when she put her family ahead of her career.

She loved being a mother to her children, but she missed being independent and busy. Her emptiness of not being able to make her own money continued to haunt her over the years. She hoped to resume her career and regain her financial independence.

Sandhya decided to go back to work and began looking for work-from-home options that would help her reinvigorate her career and take care of her family. So she started a work-at-home business for children’s products.

How she harnessed the power of digital

Sandhya started running an online store and making money from the comfort of her home. When she got stuck building outreach to new customers and marketing the product, she took her WomenWill course at Google. She learned everything through the program, from her digital marketing basics to selling online and even how to apply for business her documents such as her pan card.

Soon her business began to expand. She gained her confidence and improved her communication skills. Her income has also diversified. “I started applying everything I learned in the WomenWill program to running my business. I feel like I’ve accomplished something important,” she says.
