Maintaining a successful business for a century and a half is a significant achievement, but Mentor’s WS Tyler believes the 150th anniversary is in many ways just the beginning.
WS Tyler, a wire mesh company specializing in industrial wire mesh, filtration and particle analysis, is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2022.
WS Tyler President John Rothbottom said, “150 years is a big achievement, but we’re only talking so far. “This company will celebrate many more anniversaries of this kind with its ownership and employees. It will happen.”

According to a company news release, WS Tyler opened its doors in Cleveland in 1872 and the first in 1910 when the company developed a series of scientifically-backed test sieves known as the Tyler Standard Scale Sieve Series. A big break happened. This eventually laid the foundation for the ASTM E-11 standard, one of the most respected standards in the particle analysis industry today.
They used this success to roll out the RO-TAP]Sieve Shaker. It quickly became the gold standard in the particle analysis industry.
A news release states that WS Tyler was acquired by Germany-based Haver & Boecker in 1998. The combined knowledge and technical experience of both companies, combined with the domestic strength of the WS Tyler brand, has created new opportunities in the world of filtration, industrial wire mesh and building products.
“Our owners, Haver & Boecker, have re-established the values that made this company great from the beginning,” said Rosbottom. is clearly committed to the long-term growth of the entire organization, and their continued support and reinvestment in WS Tyler is fundamental to our success.”
Over the past 150 years, obstacles have ranged from supply chain problems to economic recessions to global wars to pandemics, but WS Tyler’s vision of providing valuable braided wire solutions remains the same.
“Think about it, this company is 150 years old. It’s amazing what we’ve done and to be here today looking forward to the future,” said Rothbottom.
