Alex Keane

Alex Keene, who has held several roles in the University of Wyoming’s Department of Budget and Finance, has been promoted to the position of Vice President for Budget and Finance and Chief Financial Officer.

The appointment was approved by the university’s board of trustees on Friday.

“Alex has provided strong and consistent leadership to help us through a very difficult time,” said Ed Seidel, president. “I am delighted that he has accepted the position of Vice Chancellor to continue and build on the excellent work he and his team have been doing to strengthen the university’s financial position.”

Keen joined UW in 2018 and has served as Director of Budget and Institutional Planning. Vice President of Budget and Planning. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Budget and Finance.

“I am honored to serve in this role and have the opportunity to work with Chairman Seidel’s distinguished leadership team,” said Keen. “I am thrilled to lead a talented budget and finance team as we continue to build and expand our partnerships with all departments at the university.”

Prior to UW, he worked for the Economic Analysis Division of the Wyoming Office of Administrative Intelligence and the Wyoming State Department of Legal Affairs. He started his career in 2006 as a state school financial auditor.

Keane received a BA in Political Science from Benedict College in Atchison, Kansas in 2002.
